Jim Nance is 71, married 45 years to June Freeman Nance, grateful and blessed. They had one daughter, Kathryn Louise, now 40 who married Adam Roark on June 7th , 2003. They have had our 2 grandchildren, Ted (10) and Mary James (6). Kathryn is an attorney by profession, now a businesswoman with Patterson UTI, Inc based in Houston. Adam is with Grant Thornton, a global business advisor. We all live in Houston now. Jim was raised in Houston, went to Rice University and the University of Texas for some graduate work. June went to University of Georgia. Before starting his own firm in 1977, he was senior vice president of Commercial Lending at First Mortgage Company (FMC) for 2 years, having been with FMC since 1969. From 1977-1984, as a general managing partner, his company through partnerships owned, developed and managed some 1600+ apartments, 4 office buildings and parks totaling over $200,000,000 in assets. He moved to Washington, NC in 1984, having sold his management company to US Shelter, providing all the personnel in the company with jobs. It had been a great, cohesive team and his proudest and most humbling accomplishment.
Since 1984 through 2013, he has developed shopping centers, office buildings, office/medical parks, apartments and residential enclaves, and freestanding retail in various partnerships. Totaling some $150 million, Jim and Al met in late 1999 and have been partners and close friends ever since through Paradigm Development Group.. Paradigm has developed 20+ individual build-to-suits and several business parks which Jim and Al still own and offer for sale or build to suit opportunities.. Jim returned to Houston in 2013 because of grandkids and still enjoys his relationship with Al and other partners in ENC, such as Terry Smithwick of Park Boat Company (Washington), Bob and Bill Rich of Washington and Ocracoke NC,, Jeryl and Artie Rawls of Washington, NC, and Bob Walters of Raleigh, NC. In Houston he has a partnership for investment with Mike and Mark Willis of the Willis Group and with Bill Hock in Augusta, Georgia. Jim and June are active in their faith, members of Chapelwood United Methodist Church, in areas of teaching and mentoring under Christ’s aegis.
